Curator’s Note

This dress is from Ralph & Russo's Spring/Summer 2016 Haute Couture collection, designer Tamara Ralph's exploration of what reviewers described as regeneration and rebirth, with the collection built around a blooming garden set and a reworked 1950s hourglass silhouette. The season's signature techniques included hand-painted and appliquéd silk flowers, scattered micro-pearls and pailettes, and petal-shaped feather detailing, worked across structured, corseted bodices and peplum or draped skirts. This piece, Runway Look 35, has a sequin-embroidered corset bodice and an asymmetric, structured hip-draped skirt scattered with handmade silk and feather flowers in lavender, mint and white, more densely clustered at the hip. It took took over 300 hours to complete this piece
