Curator's Note

From Christian Dior's AW 2004 ready-to-wear under Galliano, a collection drawn from early 20th-century Vogue covers and the Teddy Boy aesthetic of 1950s Britain. The black wool gabardine sheath with satin ruffle trim, criss-cross halter neckline and open lace-up back translates that dual reference into a single garment. A similar dress appeared on the runway at look 44.

John Galliano was appointed creative director of Christian Dior in 1996, bringing fifteen years of theatrical, historically driven collections to the house.
