Curator's Note

This black openwork knit skirt is from John Galliano's Autumn-Winter 1999 collection for Christian Dior. Knitted with a vertical lace-effect pattern, it has a slim tube cut falling to below the knee and is finished with a scalloped openwork hem. The fine openwork knit and lace patchwork were techniques Galliano used frequently both at Dior and his eponymous label ready-to-wear.
