Curator's Note
This cocktail dress is from Raf Simons's first ready-to-wear collection for Christian Dior, Spring/Summer 2013, runway look 10. The collection followed his couture debut that July. Simons de-stuffed Dior's Bar jacket silhouette, rendering the New Look in a modern shape and pairing it with shorts or a skirt, in a soft palette of yellow, green, pink and metallic blue. The dress is cut from a green changeant fabric, which changes colour with movement and light. The dress has a boned corseted bodice beneath a single panel of pleated fabric that drapes across one shoulder and wraps around the waist.

Christian Dior by Raf Simons
Raf Simons served as artistic director of Christian Dior's womenswear and haute couture collections from April 2012 to October 2015, succeeding John Galliano. His debut haute couture collection, shown in July 2012, revisited the house's signature silhouettes, including the Bar jacket and the A-line and H-line forms established by Christian Dior in the 1950s through a minimalist, modernist lens that ran through his tenure. The collection's cigarette trousers, worn beneath cropped dresses and ballgowns, became one of the defining silhouettes of his era at Dior.
