Curator's Note

From John Galliano's AW 1999 collection for Christian Dior, this black ribbed knit maxi dress and matching top are finished with vertical fringed bands that run the length of both pieces. A green version appeared on the AW 1999–2000 runway; a red fringed version of the dress was worn by Sabrina Elba at the 2022 British Fashion Awards.

  • Semi-sheer effect through the open ribbed knit

John Galliano was appointed creative director of Christian Dior in 1996, bringing fifteen years of theatrical, historically driven collections to the house.
