Curator's Note

From Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2004 Deliverance collection, this dress is a variation of a design presented on the runway in peach. This example retains the draped bias-cut silhouette and exposed corsetry of the original look, without the cape-style sleeve panels seen on the catwalk version.

Description

  • Sleeveless cocktail-length dress in black silk, cut on the bias
  • Cowl neckline revealing an internal boned mesh corset
  • Sheer black tulle bodysuit foundation with ruched bust cups
  • Draped silk overlay across the bust and torso
  • Open back with draped detailing
  • Fitted through the waist and hips
  • Flared hem with scalloped seam panels
  • Concealed fastening

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen was founded in London in 1992 by Lee Alexander McQueen, who brought Savile Row tailoring together with a sustained engagement with history, mortality, the natural world and the relationship between beauty and violence. His runway shows, among them Dante, Deliverance and Plato's Atlantis, are among the most referenced in the history of fashion.
