Pucci
Emilio Pucci, Marchese di Barsento, was born in 1914 into one of Florence’s oldest aristocratic families, and lived and worked in the Palazzo Pucci for much of his life. He founded his eponymous house in 1947 and built his name on silk scarves, blouses and wrinkle-free dresses. The latter was developed at the encouragement of Stanley Marcus of Neiman Marcus. His signature bold kaleidoscopic prints are inspired by Renaissance art and the Mediterranean, and earned him the name Prince of Prints. He dressed some of the era’s most photographed women, including Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Elizabeth Taylor, and in 1965 was commissioned by Braniff International Airways to design a series of flight and ground crew uniforms. Following his death in 1992, his daughter Laudomia Pucci continued to design for the house; after LVMH acquired a majority stake in 2000, subsequent creative directors included Christian Lacroix, Matthew Williamson and Peter Dundas.
