Curator's Note
Peter Dundas's Pre-Fall 2014 collection for Emilio Pucci took inspiration from the winter resorts of Gstaad and Chamonix, as well as the textiles and dress of Central Asia. Dundas looked particularly to the late 1960s and early 1970s, when musicians such as Janis Joplin and Marianne Faithfull adopted richly patterned textiles, embroidery and traditional garments in their wardrobes. The collection included ikat motifs, elaborate geometric patterns and textured wool, with much of the decoration inspired by Central Asian carpets and tapestries. This fuchsia wool and mohair coat features a geometric pattern in pink, black and white, with raised, textured motifs covering the entire surface. The same pattern appeared on a fitted mini dress in the Pre-Fall 2014 lookbook, styled with lace-up over-the-knee boots. The coat is a particularly good example of Dundas's interest in richly decorated textiles during his years at Pucci.

Peter Dundas for Emilio Pucci
Peter Dundas was creative director of Emilio Pucci between 2008 and 2015. During his tenure he brought a rock-and-roll edge to the Florentine label. He took the house’s archive of graphic prints as his starting point and reworked it through craft: overlaid with pony hair, finished with gold lamé, or translated into beading, embroidery and jacquard knitwear made by Pucci’s artisans. His collections frequently referenced the late 1960s and 1970s, particularly the wardrobes of Anita Pallenberg and other women associated with the era’s music scene. He paired short, close-cut silhouettes and draped jersey with fringed knits, pony skin coats and densely beaded mini dresses, drawing on the house’s Florentine heritage and his own Norwegian roots. Pieces from his Pucci years are collected for their surface work and their direct connection to the house’s print archive.
