Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton
Marc Jacobs was appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton in 1997, becoming the first person to hold that position. Until then the house was exclusively known for luggage and leather goods. He created the brand's first women's ready-to-wear line. Each collection was presented with sets that included a full-scale carousel at the Cour Carrée for spring/summer 2012 and a custom-built steam train pulled into the Louvre for autumn/winter 2012. His muses included Sofia Coppola, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga. In 2001, collaborated with artist Stephen Sprouse on the Graffiti Speedy bag, applying spray-painted lettering to the house's monogram canvas. In 2003 his collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami produced the Multicolore collection, replacing the traditional beige and brown monogram with a multicoloured one. Both collaborations established the model of fashion and art partnership that other luxury houses subsequently adopted. He left the house in 2013 to focus on his own label.
