Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier is a French fashion designer who launched his label in Paris in 1976, having begun his career as an assistant to Pierre Cardin. Dubbed the enfant terrible of French fashion, he built his aesthetic around subcultures the mainstream of fashion ignored, including the biker, the fetishist and the punk, and made the Breton sailor stripe a recurring signature of his own French heritage. He brought corsetry and lingerie onto the runway as structural elements and introduced men's skirts in 1984. The cone bra corset, which first appeared in his Spring/Summer 1989 collection, became globally recognised when Madonna wore it on the Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990. He presented his final haute couture show in 2020.
