Curator's Note
This gown was deigned by Frida Giannini for Gucci's Spring/Summer 2010 runway collection, which was notable for motocross and parachute references with crystal and metal hardware. Reviewing the show for Vogue Runway, Sarah Mower described the closing look as “totally encased in a tubular web of metallic and crystal beading... rock-star performance-ready,” and called the collection “the best Giannini has done yet.” This gown was presented on the runway as one of the final looks (look 43). A similar design from the same collection was worn by Nicole Kidman in the 2011 film Just Go With It. The same design was also worn by FKA Twigs.

Frida Giannini for Gucci
Frida Giannini was Gucci's creative director from 2006 to 2015, bringing the house's own archive to the centre of her work: the Gucci Flora print, the Bamboo bag, the Horsebit, the Web stripe, and reimagining these codes for a new decade. Her collections are characterised by a slim, elongated silhouette, floral printed silk, tailored suiting and embellished eveningwear. As collector interest in 2000s and early 2010s designer fashion grows, her work is increasingly recognised for its construction quality and deep connection to Gucci's codes.
