Presented on the Thierry Mugler Autumn/Winter 1990–91 runway as part of the Music Hall collection, this two-piece suit is made of black velvet with gold lamé detailing.

Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler founded his Paris house in 1973. Trained as a ballet dancer, he brought an understanding of the body in motion to clothing that treated the figure as something to be sculpted rather than simply dressed. The Mugler silhouette became one of the most recognisable in fashion. Drawing on science fiction, Old Hollywood glamour, fetishism and architecture, his vintage and archive pieces from the 1980s and 1990s are among the most sought-after, and his influence is visible in designers including Alexander McQueen and Daniel Roseberry.
