Curator’s Note
This jacket was designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel's Resort 2015 collection, which was shown in Dubai in May 2014. The jacket follows the house's collarless, cropped shape, cut in charcoal fantasy tweed worked with flecks of yellow, green, red, blue and white tulle and set with silver and blue microsequins. The jacket has five gilded metal Gripoix buttons set with pale pink glass cabochons at the front, with matching buttons at the cuffs. Inside, a chain weights the hem so the jacket hangs straight, a technique Gabrielle Chanel introduced to her tailoring.

Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel
Karl Lagerfeld was appointed creative director of Chanel in 1983 and spent thirty-six years reinterpreting the Chanel codes: the tweed suit, the quilted handbag, the little black dress, the CC monogram, across collections that also became known for their extraordinary runway spectacle. What he found, in his own words, was a “sleeping beauty” - a house with a clear heritage but no contemporary relevance. He rebuilt it into one of the most recognised luxury houses in the world.
