Jørn Langberg for Christian Dior
Jørn Langberg was a Danish designer who joined Christian Dior London in 1965 and was appointed director within a year, at a time when the London and Paris houses maintained entirely separate collections. Outspoken in his admiration for British style, he was clear that British women dressed and lived differently from their French counterparts, and his collections for Dior London reflected that understanding. His most significant contribution was Diorling, launched at the Conduit Street boutique in 1968, a ready-to-wear line that brought a designer label within reach of a younger clientele and reflected the energy of London at the height of the Swinging Sixties. He dressed Princess Margaret, Princess Alexandra and Britt Ekland among others. The Diorling collection is held in the V&A and currently features in La Galerie Dior in Paris.
