From Christian Dior's AW 1984 Haute Couture collection under Marc Bohan, who led the house for over two decades - the longest tenure of any designer at the maison. This dress is cut in black cloqué silk, with a sweetheart neckline, long set-in sleeves, a fitted bodice and a straight skirt. The dress was seen on Princess Caroline of Monaco.

Marc Bohan for Christian Dior
Marc Bohan was appointed creative director of Christian Dior in 1960, succeeding Yves Saint Laurent, and held the position for nearly thirty years - the longest tenure in the house's history. His debut collection in spring/summer 1961, drawing on 1920s silhouettes and dubbed the Slim Look, received a standing ovation and was described by the New York Times as causing chaos in the Dior salon. Where Saint Laurent had pushed the house toward youth culture and experimentation that alienated its established clientele, Bohan refocused it on a more conservative and enduring elegance, summarised in his own words as 'N'oubliez pas la femme', which means ‘Don't forget the woman’. His clients included Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Grace Kelly. He created the Dior Oblique monogram, introduced the first Dior ready-to-wear collection in 1967 and established the first iteration of what became Dior Homme.
