Curator's Note

This Chloé A-line coat is made of white wool, with a stand collar and gathered shoulders. It features high side slits from waist to hem, which in motion reveal the skirt underneath.

Chloé

Chloé was founded in Paris in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisienne who created luxury ready-to-wear at a time when the concept did not exist, staging her earliest presentations in the cafés of Saint-Germain-des-Prés rather than the salons of the couture houses. Karl Lagerfeld, first hired in 1964, became the designer most closely associated with the house's identity across two separate stints. The succession of creative directors since has been notably female, among them Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Clare Waight Keller and Chemena Kamali, appointed in 2023.
