Sarah Burton served as creative director of Alexander McQueen from 2010 to 2023, having worked alongside Lee McQueen for fourteen years before his death. Where McQueen's work was rooted in darkness, trauma and provocation, Burton drew the house toward the romantic and the natural - femininity examined from the inside, with the English rose, rites of passage and womanhood as recurring subjects. She is widely known as the designer of Kate Middleton's wedding dress for her marriage to Prince William in 2011, and was awarded an OBE in 2012 for services to the British fashion industry.
