Alessandro Michele for Gucci

Alessandro Michele was appointed creative director of Gucci in 2015, having joined the house in 2002 as an accessories designer. His eight-year tenure replaced Tom Ford's overt sexuality and Frida Giannini's archive-focused approach with a maximalist, gender-fluid aesthetic built around layered prints, historical references, ornate embellishment and a deep engagement with 1970s bohemianism. He dressed Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Florence Welch, and his collections grew Gucci into one of the highest-grossing luxury houses in the world.
